The statue was uncovered on the 7th of June 2011 in Oslo by another Norwegian war hero, Gunnar "Kjakan" Sonsteby.
Max Manus is one of Norway´s greatest war heroes, who during World War II blew up German warships in the Oslo harbour. His immensely dramatic life was the subject of a recent very popular film, which was broadcast in several countries.
The Samlerhuset Group actively supports war veterans in several other countries as well. The London Mint Office supports the war veteran charity Help for Heroes in the UK, while in Finland Samlerhuset has raised over 2 million euro in support of the Finnish war veterans.
− We are very proud to be able to help the war veterans in Finland. We have supported them for several years and will continue to do so, for as long as they need our help, Country Manager Janne Häkkinen says.
− Raising money for the war veterans is usually done with very limited resources and therefore our partners are very important to us. In 2006 we started a new form of fundraising, and Suomen Moneta was with us from the beginning. In the past, we used to raise 500-800 000 euro per year. Now, since the cooperation with different companies started, we have been able to raise 2,5 – 3,5 million euro per year, Pia Mikkonen says.
Three key employees from Samlerhuset Finland, Suomen Moneta, have been presented with medals of honor by the National Association of War Veterans, in appreciation for their work with and for the veteran cause.
